This study presents the development of a low-cost programmable logic controller (PLC) trainer as a practical and cost-effective solution for industrial automation training. The trainer integrates a Mitsubishi FX1N-32MR PLC, structured wiring, and essential input and output devices, along with GX Works 2 software for programming and debugging. The system was designed to simulate real-world industrial automation tasks, including manual on/off control, traffic light sequencing, temperature-based fan activation, and object detection. The performance of the developed PLC trainer was evaluated by conducting a functional test to assess its accuracy and execution of ladder logic programs, with results confirming its reliability and suitability for automation training applications. The trainer successfully processed digital input signals, executed control logic with minimal delay, and activated corresponding outputs as programmed. The findings validate the trainer as an effective educational tool, bridging the gap between theoretical learning and practical application in industrial automation. Hence, this system provides a scalable and cost-effective alternative to commercial PLC training kits, strengthening technical education and industrial skill development, and serving as a valuable tool for engineering institutions and vocational training programs.
