Developing countries are facing challenges of shortage of medical expertise due to poor working conditions and government insensitivities to the medical experts' welfare. Malaria have been reported to kill about 1.2 million people worldwide while 21 million cases of typhoid fever were reported annually respectively. In order to redress this anomalous situation, a reliable knowledge-based expert system was proposed to be used as a supporting tool to the human-medical expertise where inadequate. Thus, the aim of this work was to develop a knowledge-based expert system to diagnose malaria and typhoid fever. The designed medical expert system contained 19 knowledge-based production rules to effectively diagnose malaria and typhoid fever. User-interface expert diagnosis forms were used due to its easy communication features between users and the system while C#. Net programming language was used in the design of the interface. The developed system was tested on Windows 7 operating system and can reliably perform on higher operating systems. The system was found capable of assisting medical experts in diagnosing diseases and to provide good health services to patients thereby reducing the increase in mortality rate.
